Cost Trademark registration

Clear and easy to understand

Trademark Registration Fees: What Does It Cost to Register a Trademark?

Your trademark—whether it consists of your company name, logo, or a combination of both—is an important business asset. It creates recognition, distinguishes your products and services from those of your competitors, and often represents significant commercial value. Protecting your trademark through registration is therefore a wise investment.

Registering a trademark involves certain costs, but it helps prevent others from taking advantage of your name, reputation, or brand identity.

Why Invest in Trademark Protection?

Building a strong brand takes time and effort. Without a registered trademark, you expose your business to unnecessary risks:

  • Others may use your brand name.
  • Competitors may benefit from your reputation.
  • Your brand may suffer reputational damage through unauthorised use by third parties.

A registered trademark protects your investment and gives you exclusive rights to your brand.

Trademark Registration Costs: What Determines the Price?

The cost of registering a trademark depends on several factors, including:

  • The territory in which you require protection (Benelux, European Union, or internationally)
  • The number of classes of goods and services
  • The complexity of the application and the level of legal advice required

Many businesses begin by obtaining trademark protection in the Benelux or throughout the European Union.

Benelux Trademark Registration Fees

For many businesses, a Benelux trademark registration is the logical first step.

  • From €575 (excluding VAT)
  • Complimentary identical trademark search
  • Protection in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg
  • Includes one class of goods or services
  • €150 (excluding VAT) for each additional class of goods or services

European Union Trademark (EUTM) Fees

If you wish to protect your trademark throughout Europe, an EU Trademark is an efficient and cost-effective solution.

  • From €1,350 (excluding VAT)
  • Complimentary identical trademark search
  • Protection in all EU Member States
  • Includes one class of goods or services
  • €250 (excluding VAT) for each additional class of goods or services

International Trademark Registration

For businesses with international ambitions, trademark protection can be obtained through the Madrid System administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

  • Protection available in more than 110 countries
  • Flexible system—you choose the countries in which protection is required
  • Costs vary by country (typically between €300 and €1,400 per designated country)

Each designated country examines the application independently. If protection is refused in one country, this does not automatically affect your application in the other designated countries.

For countries that are not members of the Madrid System, a separate national trademark application is required.
